Street Style of the Week: Bold Jackets!

We are kicking off Bold March this month here at The Tannery inspired by pop colors, metallics, stripes, and anything well…bold!  Technically speaking in the fashion world we are in the Spring 14 months even though when you step out of your house in all our layers and boots it may not feel this way. This tail end of winter can get quite deary here in Boston but we are trying to find some ways to put some color in your life! Here are some colorful jackets bringing some life into the grey streets of New York and London.

The Oscars: Tannery favorites and a look back.

Dram & Discover with The Glenlivet

In case you missed it…

On February 13, Wilderness Workshop (located in The Tannery flagship store at 711 Boylston St. in Boston) was pleased to host  Dram & Discover sponsored by The Glenlivet with brand ambassador Matthew Springate.

Those who braved the cold snowy weather, were met with a warm evening of tastings, sneak peaks at some of the store’s favorite footwear from Alden of New England and great conversation.

New York Fashion Week Trend Report

Jackets on jackets on jackets! For the upcoming Fall/Winter 14 season designers are earning major outerwear style points. Heavy layering of the usual outerwear materials such as shearling, wool, and leather are taken to new heights with their thought out color combinations, and varying silhouettes. Technical details in the outerwear reflect a respect given to the functionality of a piece as well as its individual innovation for whomever wears it. Classic baroque, floral, and tartan patterns make an appearance on a few different runways reminding us that the past is always in. Although we could have predicted the charcoal and pop jewel tones peppered throughout the shows of NYFW the real surprise came in the unconventional designs of the handbags and knee-high footwear. Chinese take out boxes, fur lined muffs, and a modern take on the brown lunch bag have us wanting more. In conclusion the Fall/Winter 14 season might have you more prepared for the unpredictable while staying of the ahead of the fashion curve. Stay tuned for our reviews from LFW!

Opening Ceremony FW14

Asymmetry is the name of the game for Opening Ceremony this FW14  from strategically placed zippers to uneven skirt hems and draping long tees. The collection stays true to an overall monotone theme of black, ivory and dark green with pops of royal blue and blush.  Jackets of all kinds make a big statement on this runway ranging from elongated cocoon fitting car coats, to lightweight trenches in bold colors, to color-blocked waist length jackets. Get ready to load up on layers ladies, a trend seen  across multiple runways this fall, with Opening Ceremony being no exception,  is layering of all sorts. Skirts over pants, Jackets on jackets, shirts over sweatshirts and more.

A total departure from the breezy white floral silhouettes seen in her SS14 line, the FW14 line from Tory Burch focused on over the top extravagant fabrics, used in all the right ways. Starting off with armor inspired muted charcoals, brocade prints metallics and leathers, the show quickly moved into deep reds and rich navys paired with gorgeous tapestry prints, heavy knit layers, embroidery and bold hardware, creating a distinctly medieval vibe. To maintain a modern feel, the looks were styled with the familiar over the knee boots and socks we have all come to love, paired with some of the most awesome handbags we have ever seen. Ever. Chinese take-out box, or fur muffler anyone? Needless to say this collection has us ready to skip over summer and head straight into fall and all it’s splendor.

Alexander Wang FW14

The versatility of Alexander Wang’s FW14 collection seems like it was actually made to keep up with the city lifestyle. The fashionistas trekked from NYC to Brooklyn in a snow storm to see fashions designed especially for a commute like that. Many of these pieces even had built-in utilities, made for the modern adventurer with storage designed especially for smart phones, moleskin’s or lipstick. Although the pop colors, textures and heat-activated leather scream high fashion innovation there is undeniable functionality reflected in the outerwear and footwear in Wang’s show. The over the knee leather boots and jackets were definitely the star of the show proving that function can indeed be fashionable.

NYFW Street Style: Part 2

NYFW has come to an end but street style is eternal! Even though the shows and excitement of NYFW has ended our team is going to continue to bring you a weekly dose of the hottest everyday looks off the streets. Here are some of our favorite looks following the pastel trend from the final week of NYFW!

Clover Canyon FW14

These are our favorite looks from the Clover Canyon FW14 runway show! We are proud to be carrying Clover Canyon starting this Spring, in fact you can see their new arrivals on our floors today. This brand perfectly channels the colorful, and eclectic spirit of California. We appreciate their color palettes, artful influence and how they bring life to our retail floor in such dreary times.  For Fall we are seeing an old Irish influence in the hallucinatory imagery, tartan stripes, and lots of wool! Stay tuned for our SS14 Clover Canyon arrivals at our Boston and Cambridge Tannery locations!
